payment.received → whatsapp: send template
The problem
Customers ask "did my payment go through?" Your team answers the same question many times each day.
What you get
- The customer gets a receipt on WhatsApp or SMS seconds after paying.
- The message carries the amount and the reference.
- Delivery reports from Termii come back as message.delivered and message.failed events.
Steps
- 1
Connect WhatsApp Cloud API
Open your workspace and go to Connections. Find WhatsApp Cloud API and click Connect. Enter your phone number id and access token from Meta. For SMS, connect Termii with your API key and sender id. Hooksnode keeps the keys and tokens encrypted. Members can see that the connection exists, but not its secrets.
- 2
Add your payment gateway as a source
In your project, go to Sources, click Add source and pick A business tool. Choose one of Paystack, Flutterwave or Moniepoint (Monnify). Free covers one gateway. A Pro project adds more sources (up to 10). Copy the webhook URL that Hooksnode shows and paste it into the webhook settings of your gateway dashboard. Hooksnode checks the gateway signature on every request and refuses forged events.
- 3
Add the WhatsApp action
Go to Destinations and click Run a tool action. Pick WhatsApp Cloud API and Send a template. Set the event type to payment.received and add these options:
template=payment_receipt params=data.customer.name,data.amount.amount_minor,data.reference
- 4
Or send an SMS
Pick Termii and Send an SMS instead. The customer phone comes from the payment event.
Tips
- Meta needs an approved template for messages outside the 24-hour customer window.
- Use a filter on data.status so only successful payments send a receipt.
- The "Ship and tell" recipe sends an SMS when a Shipbubble parcel is delivered.
