Keep a live payments ledger in Google Sheets
Each payment adds a row to a sheet: time, reference, amount, customer and gateway.
- Time:
- 5 minutes
- Plan:
- Free. Free covers one gateway. A Pro project adds more sources (up to 10), so the same sheet can take every gateway.
- Status:
- Beta
- Code:
- None
Beta: tested against sample payloads, not yet verified on a live account.
payment.received → google sheets: add a row
The problem
Your finance team lives in spreadsheets. They export CSV files from each gateway every week and join them by hand.
What you get
- One sheet with each payment from one gateway.
- Rows arrive as payments happen, not at the end of the week.
- No exports and no copy and paste.
Steps
- 1
Connect Google Sheets
Open your workspace and go to Connections. Find Google Sheets and click Connect. Sign in with Google. Hooksnode keeps the keys and tokens encrypted. Members can see that the connection exists, but not its secrets.
- 2
Add your payment gateway as a source
In your project, go to Sources, click Add source and pick A business tool. Choose one of Paystack, Flutterwave or Moniepoint (Monnify). Free covers one gateway. A Pro project adds more sources (up to 10). Copy the webhook URL that Hooksnode shows and paste it into the webhook settings of your gateway dashboard. Hooksnode checks the gateway signature on every request and refuses forged events.
- 3
Add the recipe
Go to Destinations, click Use a recipe and pick "Payments ledger in Google Sheets". Paste the spreadsheet id from the sheet URL and the sheet name. Click Add recipe.
Tips
- Change the columns option to pick other fields from the event.
- Free covers one gateway. A Pro project adds more sources (up to 10). They all send payment.received, so one ledger can cover them.
- Google Sheets can also be a source. Hooksnode reads new and changed rows on a schedule. That source is polled, so it needs a Pro project.
